1] - User Group Creativity: Contests for Old and New
.......................

It is no secret that user groups value creativity and that members are
inventive, especially when the challenge of competition is added to the
mix. From Cap Mac's three membership contests, to Surrey Mac User
Group's three categories of video competition, to the Apple II
programming contest sponsored by the Apple Pugetsound Program Library
Exchange, there really is something for every interest. Even quick and
simple contests can be fun. The AppleSlice contest winner will be the
first member who shows up for their July meeting with an iPhone.

2] - Fun in the Sun: Groups Trade Meetings for Picnics and Swap Meets
.......................

Many groups hold a summer social gathering instead of a July meeting.
Diablo Valley's Macintosh User Group holds their Christmas-in-July
picnic, while the Omaha Macintosh User Group holds their Potluck
picnic. appleJAC will be holding their annual picnic and swap meet in
the next thirty days, while the members of Apple Cider and Kinki Mac
Users groups had their picnics last week. The Houston Area Macintosh
Users Group will be holding their annual Swap Meet this month too.

Does your group hold a special event in the summer? Let us
know by writing to ugbeditor@mac.com

3] - FileMaker Pro User Group at DevCon 2007
......................

From August 5 to 9, FileMaker mavens will be in Orlando for DevCon
2007, and you can bet that members of the FileMaker Pro User Group
will be there. This year the group is sponsoring DevCon2007 and
planning on wearing shirts that advertise FmPUG on the front and
individual member's businesses on the back. It's a neat way to show
the strength of the FileMaker user group community while filling the
conference center with Puggers. Shouldn't you be a Pugger too?

Check it out.

5] - Transitions: Janet Mobley Retires
.......................

For the last seven years Janet Mobley was the editor of the well-known
and much-respected newsletter for North Coast Mac Users Group. She was
also the editor for the Gravenstein Group and has been a valuable

but we'll miss her writings.
